A Victory over Edmund — Mansfield Park

It is a triumphant day for Tom and Maria. They have won over Edmund's discretion. They behave kindly to him, though they cannot help a few jokes. Tom hopes that Fanny may be more disposed to oblige them now, and Edmund tells him not to ask. The Parsonage is as pleased as the Park.

Mary and Mrs Grant discuss Henry. Mary says Henry has trifled with Maria's feelings, though Maria has long sought his attentions, and that Mr Rushworth would stand little chance if Henry stepped in before the articles were signed. Mrs Grant says something must be done once the play is over. Julia suffers in silence, and Fanny sees and pities it. Mrs Norris is too busy saving half a crown here and there to watch her nieces.
