Everyone fears punishment. Everyone fears death or loves life. Buddha says to remember you are just like them, so do not kill or cause killing. If you hurt others to make yourself happy, you will not find real happiness after death, no matter how safe you feel now. If you stop, you may.

Do not speak harshly to people, because angry talk starts a chain you may not be able to stop. They will speak back the same way. Angry words lead to angry blows. Stay quiet like a broken gong, and fights can stop. Age and Death drive people the way a cowherd drives cows. A wicked person burns from their own bad deeds, even when they do not see it at first. Hurt an innocent person and pain follows: sickness, loss, trouble with rulers, broken family ties, lost money, fire, and worse. Dirty clothes and strange rituals cannot clean a person who still wants too much.

The real holy person may wear fine clothes but stays calm, quiet, and kind. That person stops picking on everyone else. Be humble like a trained horse that accepts the whip without fighting back. Then use faith, goodness, energy, meditation, and clear thinking to overcome pain. Good people shape themselves the way craftsmen shape water, arrows, and wood.
